Three Year Old Breast Cancer Survivor

It is very uncommon to find a breast cancer survivor that is still in preschool. Aleisha, only three years old, has suffered far more pain than one could possibly imagine in a lifetime. Only five percent of women have cancer before the age of four, and Aleisha was only three.  One year later, she can be found playing like any normal four year old in preschool. Her bright spirit and sweet personality would never show a glimpse of her previous obstacles.
Her mother found a small growth on the left side of her daughter’s chest, the lump continued to grow until the doctors diagnosed Aleisha with juvenile secretory breast carcinoma at only a mere age of two.  The thought of cancer was the furthest diagnosis from her mother’s thoughts. As the pain grew increasingly unbearable, there was only one solution: a double mastectomy.
After the success of the complex surgery, in one sense, the doctors relieved Aleisha from a great deal of pain; however on the other hand, she must face many more surgeries to come.  At least for now, Aleisha is free of cancer and can lead a normal and happy life without the need of either chemotherapy or radiation.
